FAQs

what is a video voice demo and why are they a thing?

Every voice actor has (or should have) a demo of some sort to showcase their work. With film and TV actors, a visual aspect is already included with their reels, but that isn’t the case for V-O. My goal is to help enhance voice actors’ audio demos by adding a visual component that will provide them with a more tangible product for auditions, marketing, etc.

what kinds of demos do you produce? do you make animation demos?

I’m currently accepting commissions for commercial, narrative, and promo demos only.

One of my main goals with this business is to eventually hire a few animators to make original animation demos for clients who request them. Unfortunately, I don’t have the means to do so currently, but hopefully that will change in the near future.

I’m a voice actor with a commercial or narrative audio demo, can I request a video from you?

I would sure hope so! Please shoot me an email any time.

I’m a voice actor but I don’t have an audio demo yet, can you help me make one?

Unfortunately, my skills end at film editing, but if you would like to have a professional audio demo produced, please email Marc Cashman for a consultation (or voice-over classes, if you’re interested). Once you have your audio demo ready to go, I’ll be here for you.

what are your rates? how long should my demo be?

The length of your demo depends on what kind it is. For commercial demos, 60-90 seconds is ideal, whereas narration can be a bit longer (3 minutes maximum, probably). For rates, please email me.

what is included in the cost? do you require any upfront payments?

The base rate of your demo includes a rough cut and 2 edited cuts, if changes are requested (so 3 versions total). More than 3 will incur an extra charge.

I do request a security deposit upfront, but this is included in the overall rate — I promise it’s not a hidden fee!

I just spoke to you about rates and they might be out of my price range at the moment, what should I do?

If the upfront cost is too much, I will accept payment installments which will depend on the cost and nature of the project. Or, if you’d rather hold off till later, that’s fine! I’ll still be here.

how do you obtain the footage you use? are these legal?

A magician never reveals their secrets, but I obtain footage from every corner of the web and piece it together to create something comprehensive and unique to you. All videos fall under Fair Use laws, most specifically:

  1. using the footage in an entirely transformative way;

  2. using original audio (your demo);

  3. not claiming ownership of the footage, not taking any credit for it, and not affecting the business or success of businesses and/or individuals involved;

  4. the product itself is not-for-profit.

For more information on Fair Use, please click here.

do you need anything from me?

I do indeed! I’ll need your audio demo (obviously) and a PNG of your logo if you happen to have one. A transcript of the copy would be great as well, but isn’t mandatory.

how long will it take to get my video?

I usually aim to deliver a rough cut within 6-8 weeks of the request. Depending on the amount of commissions I get (or the amount of other work I do outside of this), that time can vary. If the 6-8 week mark has passed since your request and you still have not received anything, I will keep you updated and give you a new estimated delivery time.

where will you deliver the rough cut? can I request edits?

Of course! This is YOUR demo and I want it to be perfect just as much as you do, so be as nit-picky as you want. I deliver rough cuts on either Google Drive, Dropbox, WeTransfer, or unlisted on Youtube, whichever you would prefer.

where will the final product be posted? can I do whatever I want with it?

It’s your video demo, so please share it around the world to your heart’s content! My main objective is to provide you with the ultimate secret weapon when seeking voice-over auditions and jobs. Show potential employers, directors, producers, your mom, your sister, your dog, your neighbor’s kids, your Amazon delivery guy, etc.

Upon completion, I automatically upload to this site, my Instagram, and my Youtube channel.

how do I pay you?

I accept PayPal, Venmo, Cash App, checks, and cash. Please email me for more info.
